MTN Lagos Fashion Week 2012

The MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week (LFDW) will take place on the 24th - 27th of October 2012 and I am really looking forward to it. I hope I will be able to attend because I have been crazy busy (will also like to apologise for being MIA lately).

In addition to showcasing the best of the Spring/Summer 2013 collections from Nigeria’s premier designers, the week will once again present The MTN LFDW Awards where cash awards will be given to the Young Designer of the Year, Young Creative Entrepreneur of The Year and the Young Model of The Year.

Speaking on the event Omoyemi Akerele, Creative Director of StyleHouse, the producers of LFDW said “Our goal for LFDW 2012 is primarily to make an impact in the Nigerian fashion industry beyond the runway. Fashion is a viable economic driver in Europe and North America and it is no longer just about aesthetics but a business model which can significantly contribute to Nigerian economy if made part of the agenda.”

LFDW has been at the forefront of growing the Nigerian fashion industry by seeking out various international opportunities for Nigerian fashion designers. In February this year LFDW designers participated in an international Fashion Showcase in conjunction with the British Fashion Council and British Council to exhibit a cross-section of Nigerian fashion designers in the “Tales by Moonlight” exhibition in London.

Lagos, the budding fashion city was the last stop for the screenings. As expected, the metropolitan did not disappoint! By far the most attended screening, the crowd gathered on the 13th of August at the British Council, a LFDW sponsor and the perfect venue for the “Center of Excellence”.

The judges for the Lagos screenings were MTN’s Bukola Kajero and Ibobo Chukwuma; Ojoma Ochai from British Council; Veronica Odeka-Ebie of Vanestyle, and fashion designer Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi who were incharge of picking models, designers and those being considered for the Young Creative Entrepreneur category. They reached an agreement, the list is out and those nominated are:

NYFW Spring 2013: Ready-to-Wear

Muted and vivid monotone looks mixed with intricate details and textures were all the rave for next spring.  For colors, lots of neutral tones, golden yellows, pinks, red/oranges and blues; not much of the pastels from the past, but vibrant and rich colors.

The collection i loved the most was Oscar de la Renta. He is New York fashion's éminence grise. He showcased fresh color splashes, neutral tones as a base and then building on them with bright pinks, yellows and teals. I loved the textures, embellishments and lace - very feminine.

Marc by Marc Jacobs created heavy layers and mixed prints for an unconventional preppy look in the collection.

The perfect pair, Madewell and Solange Knowles, came together when the brand announced Knowles as its newest face and released gorg pictures for their fall campaign shoot. I'm obsessed with the all the images from the campaign and I know you will be too. Solange looked absolutely fly in the pictures and I would wear every outfit

The theme of the campaign, which can be seen in full below and in Madewell’s latest seasonal Stylebook, is “Mix well. Madewell.” The DJ/it girl did what she knows how to do best; expert mixing, with Madewell’s fall collection just as well as she does in real life. There are stripes with florals and chambrays with denim and perfection and I want it all (especially the denim, they have the best fitting denim ever). Topshop's Sensationalist Collection

Channel your dark-side with Topshop's fourth and final fall 2012 collection. I have to admit that I think this one; dubbed the Sensationalist collection; is my favorite. Unlike the first three collections— Scandi girl, Factory girl and Pennsylvania; this one is all about what you should wear when you are heading out at night and it is definitely not for the faint of heart. Classic black mini dresses are embellished with knee-length fringe, sheer tank tops decorated with gold studs, maxi skirts made from a barely-there sheer fabric, cropped trousers in metallic gold, and party dresses finished in smatterings of gold and silver sequins (very Virgos lounge-y). I LOVE IT!!!!

Wedding ready: Romantic lace

Hi everyone, went to a wedding on Saturday and I made this beautiful ivory lace dress for it. I thought the material was perfect for the occasion, lace with a million sparkling sequins on it. I decided to decorate it by beading, making it even more romantic. Definitely got a lot of compliments, t'was a fun day.

Grey and black have taken over the neutral basic color scene for quite some time now and it’s time that white is slowly starts to take over. Perhaps the change in colour can be  brought about by the changing seasons, because nothing says “a fresh new start” quite like a little white dress.

More good news?!!,  single girls don't need to wait until Mr. Right finally comes to wear white lace. The who's who of Fashionistas have been about sporting the super-feminine fabric through the seasons.

My inspiration- of course Kim Kardashian, I'm such a Kim junkie (her style that is).
