MTN Lagos Fashion Week 2012

The MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week (LFDW) will take place on the 24th - 27th of October 2012 and I am really looking forward to it. I hope I will be able to attend because I have been crazy busy (will also like to apologise for being MIA lately).

In addition to showcasing the best of the Spring/Summer 2013 collections from Nigeria’s premier designers, the week will once again present The MTN LFDW Awards where cash awards will be given to the Young Designer of the Year, Young Creative Entrepreneur of The Year and the Young Model of The Year.

Speaking on the event Omoyemi Akerele, Creative Director of StyleHouse, the producers of LFDW said “Our goal for LFDW 2012 is primarily to make an impact in the Nigerian fashion industry beyond the runway. Fashion is a viable economic driver in Europe and North America and it is no longer just about aesthetics but a business model which can significantly contribute to Nigerian economy if made part of the agenda.”

LFDW has been at the forefront of growing the Nigerian fashion industry by seeking out various international opportunities for Nigerian fashion designers. In February this year LFDW designers participated in an international Fashion Showcase in conjunction with the British Fashion Council and British Council to exhibit a cross-section of Nigerian fashion designers in the “Tales by Moonlight” exhibition in London.

Lagos, the budding fashion city was the last stop for the screenings. As expected, the metropolitan did not disappoint! By far the most attended screening, the crowd gathered on the 13th of August at the British Council, a LFDW sponsor and the perfect venue for the “Center of Excellence”.

The judges for the Lagos screenings were MTN’s Bukola Kajero and Ibobo Chukwuma; Ojoma Ochai from British Council; Veronica Odeka-Ebie of Vanestyle, and fashion designer Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi who were incharge of picking models, designers and those being considered for the Young Creative Entrepreneur category. They reached an agreement, the list is out and those nominated are:

NYFW Spring 2013: Ready-to-Wear

Muted and vivid monotone looks mixed with intricate details and textures were all the rave for next spring.  For colors, lots of neutral tones, golden yellows, pinks, red/oranges and blues; not much of the pastels from the past, but vibrant and rich colors.

Oscar De la Renta

The collection i loved the most was Oscar de la Renta. He is New York fashion's éminence grise. He showcased fresh color splashes, neutral tones as a base and then building on them with bright pinks, yellows and teals. I loved the textures, embellishments and lace - very feminine.

Rodarte

Marc by Marc Jacobs created heavy layers and mixed prints for an unconventional preppy look in the collection.

Jenny Packham kept it simple and classic

Alice + Olivia updated take on the draped boho chic

Vera Wang Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear

Vera Wang used a lot of rich solids and prints in her collection. I loved it

Brown to blonde

Khloe Kardashian has become her own paragon of style. Her fabulous face-framing ombre highlights in a plush caramel-blonde tone spotlight the variation in texture as the hair begins to tousle and flow. This on-trend long layer with center-part is a classic, pretty and feminine way to wear hair which I love and have on right now .

Here are a few pictures with my inspirations

If you go for a similar style, use a curling iron on the ends to create the soft ‘S’ shaped motion that make a brilliant addition to this look

Step: Ask your colorist for painted-on ombre highlights on the ends. For a natural-looking style, pair a dark root with blondish ends.

Step:  Create a foundation for luster, volume and fullness by combining styling whip and volume foam roots to ends of damp, towel-dried hair.

Step: Blowdry hair with round brush. Take manageable sections and go from roots to ends.

Step: When close to dry, create a center-part with comb.

Step: Wrap sections of this hair around curling iron. Hold for a few seconds; release. Complete the process on both sides. Create soft kicks and flips in a flowing style.

Angela Simmons by Indique Hair

Angela Simmons, the second daughter of legendary rapper Joseph Simmons, continues to diversify her resume, launching a new hair extension line for women.
She has been worked with Indique Virgin Hair Extensions to create the Bikini collection. She is the first celebrity spokesmodel for Indique, expanding her career as a 24-year-old business go-getter.

Simmons described the “Bikini” hair in detail. “We’ve made our own texture here,”. “It’s called Bikini [because] you can get it wet. You can get in the water with it and still look fabulous at the same time.”

She made sure to sport her innovative weave at the promotional hair launch. Her luscious locks were straightened for the event, giving fans and followers a chance to witness the hair’s flexibility.
